One of the hottest destinations on the globe, Sydney is a treasure trove of sights and experiences. We’ve thrown together some of our favourite things to do to get you started on your Sydney sightseeing extravaganza.
The Show Must Go On
Visit one of the most recognisable buildings in the modern world, the Sydney Opera House. You can wander around yourself or take the tour that gets you into the venue for a close up look.
Not Afraid Of Heights?
Spend some time on the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Options include climbing the bridge on a guided tour, taking a free walk along the pedestrian walkway on the east side of the bridge, or simply hopping into your car and driving over it.
Hang ten with surf lessons on Bondi Beach. Visit the quintessential Australian beach and spend some time with these famous waves. Classes are suitable for beginners or those who want to hone their skills.
Put On Your Hiking Boots
Take a walk on the wild side with the Bondi beach to Coogee Beach walk. This 6km walk is along the clifftops and takes you past some breathtaking views as well as cafes and rockpools. Plan on it lasting about 2 hours.
Relax in the Royal Botanic Gardens. Gorgeous plants, equally amazing setting on the waterfront and informative tours; what more could you ask for?
Art fans earmark some time to spend at the New South Wales Art Gallery. This is Australia’s leading art museum. As an added bonus general admission is free as are the daily tours.
Take a day trip to the Blue Mountains outside of the city. It pays to go on a guided tour. There is so much to see and learn including the famous Three Sisters mountains.
When The Journey Matters More Than The Destination
The iconic Sydney ferries are more than just convenient transport, they’re also a cheap and fun way to spend some time on the gorgeous Sydney harbour and take in the sights of this great city.
Chill out on the harbour that is considered one of the most beautiful in the world. There are a multitude of options to suit every budget. Combine a harbour sightseeing cruise with lunch or dinner. Take your pick of the tall ship or a variety of different yachts. For the more adventurous at heart consider a super speedy jet boat ride or row at your own pace in a kayak.
Calling All Adrenalin Junkies
If you have a hankering for something outside of the norm consider Shark Dive Extreme at the Manly Sea Life Sanctuary where you get to dive with a colony of grey nurse sharks. With less than 500 remaining along the NSW coastline, they have been fished almost to extinction. Added bonus: the experts say the teeth of grey nurse sharks are not conducive for attacking prey larger than a small bass. That’s a relief!
