Byron Bay Wildlife Safari

This is a full-day wildlife tour that heads beyond Byron Bay to look for native animals in three different habitats: eucalyptus forest, rainforest and grassland. It’s a guided nature-focused trip rather than a quick roadside stop, with return transport, a picnic lunch and binoculars included. The standout draw is that koala sightings are guaranteed, and you’ll also be looking for kangaroos and a wide range of birdlife. If conditions line up, you might also spot pademelons, echidnas, tawny frogmouths and water dragons.

The day starts with pickup and a roughly 45-minute drive to the first wildlife area. From there, you’ll visit a mix of habitats where your guide, an environmental scientist, helps you spot and identify animals and birds. Expect a combination of short walks and short drives between locations, with plenty of time spent scanning the trees and open grassland. A locally sourced picnic lunch is provided during the day, and water refills are available, so it’s worth bringing a bottle. The tour finishes with about a one-hour drive back to Byron Bay. Covered shoes are recommended, and dark clothing is suggested if possible.
