Hervey Bay Half-Day Whale Watching and Island Stop Tour

This half-day tour combines whale watching with time out on the water around Hervey Bay and the Great Sandy Straits. You’ll cruise along western K'gari (Fraser Island) into Platypus Bay, known as a key area for humpback whales, then finish with a stop at a secluded beach. It’s a more active style of cruise than a standard sightseeing trip, with paddleboards, beach games and cold drinks included. There is also the chance to swim with the whales, but only if conditions allow.

After boarding, you’ll head across the bay and cruise the waters off western K'gari before entering Platypus Bay to look for humpback whales. The tour uses a low-to-the-water vessel, which means close-up viewing when conditions are right. If approved on the day, whale swims may also be offered. After the whale watching section, the boat continues back down the coastline and anchors at a secluded beach spot. Here you can have a cold drink, play beach cricket, use the stand-up paddleboards or just hang about on the sand before heading back.
