Grampians Small-Group Day Trip with Hiking

4 hours to 1 day

Overview

This full-day trip takes you from Melbourne to the heritage-listed Grampians National Park for a mix of big scenery, short hikes and wildlife spotting. You’ll visit major viewpoints including Boroka Lookout, Reed Lookout and the Balconies, stop at MacKenzie Falls, and check out the displays at Brambuk Aboriginal Cultural Centre. With park entry, transport and a local driver-guide included, it’s a straightforward way to see a lot in one day without organising a car.

Why backpackers love it

If you’re based in Melbourne and want to see the Grampians without hiring a car, this is an easy all-in-one option. The small-group setup keeps it more social than a big coach tour, and you get a good spread of scenery, walking and cultural context across a single day. It’s not a lazy sightseeing trip though: the day is long, there’s a fair bit of walking, and bag space is limited to a small day pack, so it suits travellers who don’t mind an active schedule.

What to expect

Expect an early start and a long day on the road, travelling by air-conditioned mini-coach in a small group. Once in the Grampians, the day typically mixes scenic stops with guided bush walks, with around two hours of walking in total. You’ll visit a run of well-known lookouts for sweeping views, head to MacKenzie Falls for a refreshing nature stop, and spend some time at Brambuk Aboriginal Cultural Centre to learn more about the area. Wildlife sightings are common, including kangaroos, but they can’t be guaranteed. A moderate fitness level is needed for the walks, and you’ll need to pack for the weather.
