This wildlife cruise gives you the chance to get out on the water and swim or sightsee alongside wild bottlenose dolphins and Australian fur seals. It runs seasonally from November to April and includes snorkelling equipment, a full-length wetsuit, lunch and refreshments. It is not a cheap outing, but for travellers keen on marine wildlife and wanting equipment and food covered in one booking, it is a straightforward way to do it.
Why backpackers love it
The main draw here is how easy the day is to organise: gear, food and wildlife spotting are all bundled into one trip. The dolphin guarantee adds some peace of mind, especially given the higher price point. It also suits a wide range of fitness levels, so you do not need to be an expert snorkeller to join.
The trip runs for around three hours. After boarding, you'll head out by boat to look for dolphins and seals, with the option to get in the water or stay on board and watch. Snorkelling gear and a full-length wetsuit are provided, and optional presentations from a qualified naturalist may be available during the cruise. Lunch, snacks and refreshments are included. If dolphins are not seen on your cruise, you can return for free under the operator's dolphin guarantee.
