Mitchell Falls Explorer from Broome

This is a big day out into the remote Kimberley, aimed at travellers who want to see Mitchell Falls without tackling the overland journey. You’ll fly from Broome over King Sound, Walcott Inlet, the Harding Range and Prince Regent River before landing at Mitchell Plateau. From there, the trip includes a drive through Livistona palm country and helicopter scenic transfers to and from the falls. After time to explore, swim and take photos, you’ll head back by air with more standout views over the coastline, Montgomery Reef, Horizontal Waterfalls, the Buccaneer Archipelago, Cape Leveque and the Dampier Peninsula. It’s a premium option, but it covers a lot of hard-to-reach country in a single day.

The day starts with a flight north from Broome, crossing some of the Kimberley’s big landscapes before landing at Mitchell Plateau. Once on the ground, you’ll travel through an ancient Livistona palm forest to Mertens campground, where you transfer to a helicopter for the scenic trip to Mitchell Falls. At the falls, there’s time to look around, take photos and enjoy a swim before a return helicopter flight over Mitchell Falls and Mertens Gorge. Back at the campsite, refreshments are provided before the flight home. The return route follows the coast, taking in Kuri Bay, Montgomery Reef, Horizontal Waterfalls, the Buccaneer Archipelago, Cape Leveque and the bays and beaches of the Dampier Peninsula.
