Sunset Reef and Range Overnight Trek

This is a short overnight trek near Exmouth that packs in a solid mix of range walking, coastal scenery and remote camping. You’ll explore the upper reaches of Yardie Creek and Cape Range, then camp with sunset views over Ningaloo Reef before returning on day two. It suits travellers who want a proper trekking experience but do not have time for a longer multi-day trip. Hiking equipment is available if you need it, which helps if you are travelling light.

Over two days, you’ll hike through the Cape Range area, including the upper reaches of Yardie Creek, with a route that covers rocky and uneven terrain. The trek includes steep gullies in places, and packs can weigh up to 13 kg, so a moderate fitness level is needed. Conditions can be hot, especially when daytime temperatures climb above 30°C. Along the way, there’s the chance to spot both land and marine wildlife, enjoy a swim in the Ningaloo lagoon, and spend the night at a camp overlooking the reef. The trip is timed so you’re back in Exmouth on day two, either for check-in or an afternoon flight.
