Swim with Whale Sharks or Humpback Whales at Ningaloo Reef

This is a full-day marine wildlife trip off Exmouth where you head out to Ningaloo Reef to snorkel and, depending on the season, swim with whale sharks or humpback whales. It is a higher-priced experience, but a lot is covered in the fare, including hotel transfers, snorkelling gear, wetsuit and flotation devices, guides, and free photos. If you want a big-ticket wildlife day rather than a casual reef cruise, this is the draw.

You’ll head out on a large two-storey vessel with covered seating downstairs, water-level access for getting in and out, and an upper deck for spotting wildlife and taking in the reef views. In-water gear is provided, including mask, snorkel, fins, wetsuit and flotation devices, and prescription masks are available if arranged in advance. Whale shark swims run from April to August, while humpback whale swims run from September to November. The day operates in all weather, so bring a hat, sunscreen, towel and a change of clothes. A moderate level of fitness is needed, and it is not recommended for travellers with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health.
