Overview
This is a small-group twilight sail from Fremantle out into Cockburn Sound, timed for sunset. You’ll head out on a luxury sailing catamaran, watch the harbour shift from daylight to evening, and settle in with a glass of bubbles and complimentary antipasto. It’s more of a relaxed scenic cruise than an active sailing lesson, with space to sit back and take in the water, skyline and evening light. BYO extra drinks is allowed at no extra charge, which helps keep onboard costs down.
Why backpackers love it
If you want a more polished evening on the water without going full private charter, this strikes a good middle ground. The group is kept small, the BYO policy helps with value, and it’s an easy way to do something a bit different on a short stay in Fremantle. It’s best suited to travellers after a laid-back, adult-leaning cruise rather than a party boat or budget sailing trip. Just note that it’s ocean sailing, so you’ll need decent mobility and should dress for wind and cooler conditions.
What to expect
The sail starts about 90 minutes before sunset, with departure times changing through the year. Once onboard, you’ll cruise out from Fremantle and raise the sails as the sun starts to drop. The route is decided by the skipper on the day based on wind and weather, so conditions can vary and it may be wet or windy at times. Along the way, you’ll get bubbles and antipasto, and there’s a chance of spotting dolphins. If you’re travelling between September and November, you may also see humpback whales on their southern migration. Numbers are capped at 24, so there’s room to spread out on deck.

- Remember, sailing can at times be a wet and windy experience. Sailing route is at the discretion of the skipper on the day.
- Start time is always 90 minutes before sunset. This varies by time of year and will be confirmed in the booking confirmation your receive from the tour provider.
- Change of date permitted once without penalty, provided 7 days notice is given.
- Late arrival or failure to board for any reason = 100% ticket loss. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to begin boarding.
- Sailing at dusk is generally an adult environment. Suited to ages 15 and over.
- Please wear warm, comfortable clothes. No heels on deck (barefoot preferred)
- Expectant guests who are 28-36 weeks pregnant will require medical clearance to board. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate anyone over 36 weeks gestation.
