Why backpackers love it

If you’re staying in Alice Springs and don’t have your own wheels, this is an easy way to get out to Uluru and cover the main experiences in one booking. It is not a cheap or quick option, but it does bundle transport, guiding, meals and sunset into a single organised day, which can save hassle in a remote part of the NT. It also suits travellers who want light guided walks rather than anything too demanding.

What to expect

The day starts with pick-up in Alice Springs and the drive out to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Along the way, Alice Springs departures include a stop at Mount Connor Lookout. At Uluru, the tour includes a guided Mala Walk and a guided walk to Mutitjulu Waterhole, with commentary from your guide throughout the day. You’ll also have time at the Aboriginal Cultural Centre to learn more about the area and its cultural significance. Later, the tour wraps up with sunset at Uluru, where BBQ dinner, drinks and snacks are provided. The walking is described as suitable for all fitness levels, but you’ll still want sturdy non-slip shoes, sun protection and at least a 1.5-litre water bottle.
